Garlic-The Miraculous Herb, king of kitchen-Garlic(Biological name- Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus allium, The onion, shallot, and leek, are its close relatives. Garlic is native to central Asia, With a history of human use of over 7,000 years and has long been a staple in the Mediterranean region, as well as a frequent seasoning in Asia, Africa, and Europe. It was known to Ancient Egyptians, and has been used both In kitchen and medicinal purposes. Garlic is used as medicine in Ayurveda since centuries but now the allopathy has also recognized it’s medicinal value. Now a days market is flooded with Chinese garlic and other genetically modified varieties, all these have a very poor efficiency and lack the true garlic properties. The garlic produced by the traditional farmers without any genetic modification must be used for the best result. The farmers also produce a variety called single pearl garlic(इकपोथिया लहसुन) which is known to the best effective variety.

The use of garlic in kitchen is almost known to every user hence the medicinal use is discussed here.
Garlic is Antioxidant – Garlic naturally increases antioxidant enzymes atalase and glutathione peroxidase in your blood and helps against the damaging effects of nicotine slowing your aging process .
Garlic is  Anti-Bacterial – Garlic contains 1% potency of penicillin thus wards off a number of bacteria such as Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli, Cryptococcal meningitis, Candida albican and Staphylococcus. The bacteria  never develop resistance to garlic.
Garlic Fights Blood Clots – Clinical trials, proved it  reduced blood pressure by 1 – 5%  after taking garlic supplements. This may not sound a lot but this small reduction can reduce the chance of a stroke by 30-40% and heart disease by 20-25%
Garlic is Antiseptic -Garlic  has anti septic properties and was effectively used as an antiseptic to protect the soldiers from gangrene during World War I and World War II
Garlic is For Diabetics - Garlic help to regulate blood sugar levels. Regular and prolonged use of therapeutic amounts of aged garlic extracts lower blood  homocysteine levels and helps to prevent some complications of diabetes mellitus. People on insulin should consult their doctor before therapeutic use.
Mouth wash and gargling - A mouthwash and gargling with water containing 1:50 of fresh garlic  and sterilized water shows tremendous results to  kill bacteria.
Absorption Thiamine - Garlic helps to enhance thiamine(Vitamin B1) absorption, and thus reduces the possibilities of developing the beriberi caused by thiamine deficiency.
Garlic is Disinfectant - Because of its bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties, Garlic can be used as a disinfectant in digestive disorders, and fungal infections and very useful in chest infections.
Garlic is Anti AIDS – Garlic has been successfully used in AIDS patients.
Garlic is Useful Common Cold – In common cold garlic can be used as an effective remedy.
Garlic is Food Preservative – A mixture of Garlic and cinnamon is used as food preservative and is effective in high temperature up to 120 degree and even freeze conditions.
Pimples – Can be used as an effective treatment of pimples.
Garlic is Anti Cancer – Regular use of garlic reduces the possibility of cancer.
Garlic is useful High BP, Indigestion and Constipation – Take 5-7 standard size of Garlic Pearls and chew these in the early morning empty stomach with a glass of normal water. It will cause severe burning sensation in your stomach for about 5 minutes but miraculously reduces BP, improves digestion and very beneficial in constipation.
Garlic Breath
Despite all the health benefits of garlic you may feel garlic breath  too  deterrent. You can take Odorless Garlic Supplement but it’s efficiency will be low.
Pointer to remember -
1.            One clove a day will improve your health and 2-3 cloves will help prevent a cold.
2.            Garlic is most effective if crushed, chopped and  taken  raw.
3.            When cooking garlic, the last moment of cooking  is better to add the garlic.
4.            Be careful, taking excessive quantity may cause irritations.
5.            Always consult your doctor if you are unsure about anything.
6.            Excessive heat and prolonged cooking kills the active ingredients.
7.            Supplements may interact with certain drugs.
