Windows 10 – How to roll back to Windows 7 or 8.1 or recover your old windows 7 or 8.1-The newest and fastest operating system from the house of Microsoft corporation was released on 29 July 2015 and as per the reports Windows 10 was installed on 67 million machines within two days.  and the number of people reserved a copy is countless. This shows the popularity of the operating system. However, after practically using the operating system there may be a lot of user who may think to go back to their older versions. Microsoft has made adequate arrangements for this situation and users can easily go back to their old windows 7 or 8.1 if they so wish –

Precaution to be taken before attempting to roll back or recover your old windows

During the process of roll back or recovery of your old windows(Windows 7 0r 8.1), the data on your drive may change, corrupt or even loss therefore before attempting to roll back or recover your old windows ropy all your files folders pictures, images, videos and everything and store to an external storage like CD, USB, a removable Hard drive or on cloud storage.

There are two options to go back to old windows 7 or 8.1

You have two options to go back to your old version. One is to roll back within 30 days means within a period of 30 days from the date of upgrading to windows 10 and another is to recover your old version after 30 days means the stipulated time to roll back within 30 days is lapsed.

Quick roll back within 30 days from the date of upgrading

The quick roll back is available upto 30 days from the date of actual upgrading to windows 10. This option is easy, less time consuming. The roll back process takes place within the system itself therefore the possibility of remaining all your data in tact is high but never take a chance and ropy all your files folders pictures, images, videos and everything and store to an external storage like CD, USB, a removable Hard drive or on cloud storage. The process is very simple –
  • Click ‘Start button’
  • Click ‘Setting’
  • Click ‘Update and security’
  • Click ‘Recovery’
  • Click ‘Go back to Windows --?(Here choose the version of Windows which was installed on your system before upgrading to Windows 10 i.e. Windows 7 or Windows 8.1)
  • Click ‘Get Started’ 
  • The process of reverting your Windows 10 to your previously installed will begin. Microsoft may ask you the reason for switching back to the older version(Windows 7 or Windows 8.1). this for the purpose of feed back only therefore select the reason honestly.
  • Click ‘next and relax.

Going back to your old Windows after 30 days

If your Windows 7 or 8.1 has been automatically upgraded on line by Microsoft and a period of 30 days is over then the data related to your old windows saved in the folder ‘windows.old’ will automatically be deleted to free up space on your hard drive. Hence you will need to remove windows 10 manually and install your old windows again using your old CD and activation key. The simplest method is, Just insert your CD in the DVD drive, restart your computer. When asked choose to boot computer with CD Rom support and follow instructions.
